The South Fremantle Football Club was formed in 1900 following the disbanding of the Fremantle Football Club (unrelated to the current AFL side), which had run into financial trouble. The club won back to back premierships in 1916-17 before a golden era between 1947 and 1954 during which the Bulldogs won six flags in eight years. Since then Souths have added five further premierships, most recently in 2005 and 2009.
The club's city zone includes Perth's southern suburbs such as Hamilton Hill, Cockburn, Kwinana, Jandakot, Armadale and Kelmscott, while its country zone includes Katanning, Narrogin, Wagin and Williams in the Wheatbelt as well as Exmouth and Carnarvon in the North-West.
