Special compensation, 2005 AFL Pre-Season Draft
Shannon Motlop (born 18 August 1978) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Melbourne in the AFL and North Adelaide in the SANFL.
Originally from the Northern Territory, Motlop played for North Adelaide before he was drafted by North Melbourne in 1998. He made his debut during the 1999 season and won a premiership medal in just his seventh senior game, kicking two goals in the Kangaroos' win over Carlton in the 1999 grand final. Motlop played 19 games in 2000 and 16 in 2001, a year in which he was joined at the Roos by his younger brother Daniel. After only playing 12 games across the next two seasons, he was delisted at the end of 2003.
Motlop spent the 2004 season back at North Adelaide before being signed by Melbourne as a special compensation player following the tragic death of Troy Broadbridge in the Boxing Day tsunami. He spent two seasons with the Demons, playing ten senior games and participating in reserves side Sandringham's VFL premierships in both years.
After being delisted at the end of 2006, Motlop played two more seasons with North Adelaide. He played a number of summer seasons with Wanderers in the NTFL.
