The Norwood Football Club, nicknamed the Redlegs is a current Football Club competing in the South Australian Football League (SANFL). Its home ground is the Coopers Stadium, also known as "The Parade".

Early HistoryEdit

Norwood formed on 28 February 1878 at Norfolk Arms Hotel in Rundle Street, Adelaide. There first home ground was in the east Park Lands near the tramway and opposite the Kent Town Brewery. Norwood played their first match against reigning premiers South Adelaide and won by 1 goal. Norwood won a premiership in its first year of existence and then followed with five more in a row. The only time this record has been matched is Port Adelaide in the Fos Williams era of the 50's.

In 1888, Norwood would compete in the first ever Championship of Australia and win against South Melbourne in a best of 3 series.

Champions at NorwoodEdit

Alfred "Topsy" WaldronEdit

Alfred Waldron was a Norwood player who captained the side for 10 years, a record which has not been beaten in Norwood's history. He also played for Carlton in 1877 playing in the premiership side but returned to Norwood some years later. He captained Norwood during the 1888 Championship of Australia and captained South Australia on 3 occasions. He also played two first-class cricket matches.
