Formed in 1869, the North Melbourne Football Club joined the Victorian Football League in 1925 along with Hawthorn and Footscray. The Kangaroos took 50 years to win their first VFL flag, and have won a total of four premierships, the most recent coming in 1999. In recent times the club has staved off efforts to forcibly shift the Roos to other location, primarily the Gold Coast. While still centred in Melbourne the club has a history of selling home games to the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra and currently Hobart.
