No 3, 2000 AFL Pre-Season Draft
James Cook (born 7 January 1974) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton, Western Bulldogs and Melbourne in the AFL.
A top-two draft pick in 1990, Cook did not make his senior debut for the Blues until the opening round of 1994. He kicked 27 goals from 18 games during the 1994 season, but managed just eight games the following year as Carlton won the premiership. Seeking more opportunities, Cook was traded to Footscray at the end of the season in a straight swap for Ben Sexton. He spent five seasons with the Bulldogs, kicking 96 goals from 49 games. His most productive year came in 1997 when he kicked 36 goals from just 14 games. Cook played 19 games for the Bulldogs during 1999 but was delisted at the end of the year. Picked up by Melbourne in the pre-season draft, Cook played just three games for the Demons before retiring midway through the year.
