The Sturt secretary W.B Tank said "We have just as good or even a better side than we possessed in 1915...and we look forward to the approaching season without the slightest anxiety. I can assure you that unless something unforeseen happens we will be one of the strongest competitors for this years pennant". William Mayman would lead the Double Blues in 1919. Four men at Sturt paid the ultimate sacrifice in the during the war, and many would join the side. Including two juniors from interstate. Pincombe from Broken Hill and Burt from Western Australia.
On 26 April, A practice match was conducted on Unley Oval between the Sturt and Sturt B. It was noted in "The Mail" that the juniors were promising, and Frank Golding kicked 5 goals. The final score was Sturt: 11.17 to Sturt B: 4.4.
