Prelude[]
The Double Blues played in a tight match against West Torrens in round 1 and played in fine form. Frank Golding led the goal kicking tally on 4 goals.
Match Summary[]
The weather was turning bad for the clash between the two clubs. A fair attendance would spectate the game. The ground was in fair order and one half of the fields grass was too long and proved hard to bounce the ball.
Ivor Nicolle's mother had passed away and the Sturt team wore armbands out of respect and Easton would replace Nicolle.
Boyce for South Adelaide was replaced by L. Clarke.
First Quarter[]
The first bounce resulted in a South free towards Wainwright who kicked long but Easton recovered for the Double Blues. Sturt attacked unsuccessfully where Wainwright gained possession of the ball only for another long kick to be turned over. While retrieving the ball, Sanders wearing the blue lost the ball while trying to run clear. South recovered the ball where South captain Steve McKee opened the tally with a goal. Sturt quickly retaliated and in a surge scored a behind before Odgers received a free kick and scored a goal. South kept wasting opportunities and Sturt prevailed with their trademark high marking and quick play. After "up and down" play, Frank Golding was awarded a free and scored a goal for Sturt. Later, a penalty toward Sturt captain William Mayman led to Robinson marking close and kicking a goal. A push by South Adelaide resulted in no Sturt player touching the ball and Steve McKee then passed to Jack Tredrea but only scored a behind. Gill for the blue and white disposed of the ball to try for a score but missed slightly. Almost immediately after, Tredrea passed the ball to Walsh who scored South's second goal. Golding would score another goal with a long sharp kick and Dan Moriarty would score another goal for the Panthers.

Third Quarter[]
South Adelaide had the better position in the third quarter but wasting opportunities. D. Moriarty stopped the ball and gave a long kick towards J. Tredrea, who was given a free passed to L. Clarke who scored a major. Dan Moriarty stopped another Sturt rush and South went forward. The pressure was building towards the Double Blues until Richardson passed to Golding who scored a goal. L. Clarke tightened the margin when he scored the next goal. D. Moriarty and V. Richardson were having a half-back battle, letting no side past them. A goal for Odgers and two goals from Golding extended the lead. The play was getting rougher leading to Colquhoun doing a summersault in mid-air just to avoid a heavy fall.
Score:
Sturt: 10.10 70
South: 6.10 46
