Norwood would host The Natives at Adelaide Oval on 4 May, 1895.

Prelude[]

The match would be under umpire Coffee. A shower of rain would hit the ground but several hundred spectators would watch the opening match of the season. Norwood would enter the ground on time but The Natives delayed due to the absence of some players. The Natives in their first year in the SAFA showed the clubs colours; Guernsy, shorts and socks in black and wearing a yellow band across the right shoulder.

Match Summary[]

Norwood would start with an advantage with the wind blowing to the South East but The Natives were fighting very pluckily for the junior club and scored their first goal after Norwood had scored 1.3. After the first change, it had been discovered that The Natives had 21 players on the field and when the number was reduced the Natives did not do so well. Norwood's experience would overwhelm the Yellow and Blacks and the Natives play would be hesitant, however the young side were very fast. Norwood would win very easily and the Natives had a lot to work on.
